CONGRATULATORY
THE NEW PREMIER. (Per British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 16. Ail exchange of telegrams has taken place between Mr Churchill and the Premiers of the Dominions and the Eire President, on the occasion of Mr Churchill’s assuming the office of Prime Minister. Mr Churchill, on relinquishing the position of First Lord of the Admiralty, ■ sent a message to the fleet and the merchant navy in which he expressed his personal admiratioh for the work they have accomplished. He added that lie felt sure their unrelaxmg devotion to duty would continue and, while staling that the actions which had been fought had been a source of inspiration, expressed the appreciation of those to whom the chance of battle had not come, “but who daily face the danger and strain in carrying out their duties.” DE VALERA’S REPLY. LONDON, May 17. Rfc. Hon. W. Churchill, Prime Minister in a message to Eire said: i look forward, with confidence, to continued friendship between our two countries, and you may rely upon me to do my utmost to ensure this.” Mr Enmonn -ae Valera, Eire President, has replied, cordially reciprocating Mr Churchill’s message.
