NEUTRAL SPAIN
ALLIES’ QUEST FOR ORES. (United Press Association—By Electric iclegrapli—Gopyriglit;. NEW YORK, September 24. The “JNew York. Times's’’ Vigo correspondent says: Spain is expecting to decide at an early date wuether sue will continue an informal embargo on exports of war materials to Britain and jj ranee. The Ministry of Commerce has delayed permits for exports of iron ore, pyrites, and most other exports, until the situation is cleared up. Tne question principally interests Britain at present, since the blockade has cut GermanSpanish communications. French-Span-ish trade has been non-existent for the past two years. France and Britain formerly were heavy buyers of iron ore and pyrites both or which are needed for continuing the war.. General Franco's only public statements were made at the beginning of the war, appealing for its localisation and enjoining upon Spaniards the strictest neutrality. The decision banning trade with belligerents followed. The delaying of iron ore and pyrites, Spain’s principal exports, is an indicated of the lengths to which the Government is going to avoid being drawn into the war.
