A NEUTRAL BLOC
IN THE BALKANS SETBACK FOR GERMANY, (United Press Association—By Electrio .; ’ ? Telegraph—Copyright). NEW YORK, September 24. A radio telephone message from the London correspondent of the “New York Times” says: The Balkans situation now turns towards the creation of a bloc of concerted neutrals, embracing all ol the Balkan States and their neutrality guaranteed by Russia j Turkey and Italy. The Balkans appear to be excluded for good, from the war theatre, thereby protecting the Mediterranean, and restricting the German military activity. Turkey has sponsored this move, which both Russia and Italy are supporting, though for different reasons. Herr Hitler is thrown back in the East where he has been able to crush the Poles, at the price of allowing Russia to marshal over 100 divisions on the Vistula-Oarpathians line, thus creating a permanent menace which would stab Germany in the back immediately that she weakened in the West. Germany Jhas also lost the Ukraine, and the prospect, of seizing. Roumania's economic resources. GREECE CALLS FOR VOLUNTEERS. LONDON, September 24. The Exchange Agency’s Athens correspondent states that 500 volunteers are sought, as aviators and technicians.
