INJURIES PROVE FATAL

The death occurred in tile Ashourton Public Hospital on Saturday afternoon ot Herbert Moody, agea 00 years, lessee of the Ashburton saleyams. Moody was dipping sheep at the sfdevards on Wednesday vvnen he was struck in the stomach by a sheep, and -received serious injuries to the abdomen. He was admitted to the hospital, when an operation was performed.
DEATH MOM BURNS,
CHRISTCHURCH, May 1
Admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital on March 17, suffering from serious burns, the death occurred at the hospital yesterday of Joseph Smith, a labourer, formerly of Alford Forest, aged 63 years. . Smith was using a flame-thrower to clear over-growth' on the farm' of Mr P. A. Watson, of Methven, when his clothes caught fire.'- He was badly burnt before the .clothes could be removed,

Connolly was a native of Manchester, England, and arrived in New Zealand about 1929. He had no relatives in the Dominion.
RATES ON STATE HOUSES

The Auckland Local Bodies’ Association has been advised by the Minister for Finance (the Hon. W. Nash)
that, iii future, current rates on : State houses are to be paid as soon as possible after the demand was sent'in. In the past, tiie State Advances Corporation did not pay the rates intil after the close of the local bodies’ financial year, and a large amount of extra work was caused for local body officers. WOMAN ELECTROCUTED. WANGANUI, April 29. ‘ The body of Gwen Lillian Jones, 20, daughter of L. T. Jones, farmer, of Paparangi, was found early this morning, underneath a steel tower carrying the Wanganui-Rangitikei electric power lines across the Waganui river. Deceased evidently climbed the tower, and came in contact with a live wire carrying 11,000 volts. She was electrocuted, and fell 90 feet to the ground. CONTRACT REJECTED. WANGANUI, May 1. Because it could not approve of the terms, conditions and regulations on offer of the maternity benefits under the Social Security Act, the Wanganui division of the British Medical Association at a meeting held during the week-end, rejected the Government’s official maternity benefit contract. INFANT FATALLY BURNED. CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. Severe burns, from which she later died were received by Doreen Tanner, tile 13-nu:nths-old daughter of A. J. Tanner, of Street, when she fell from a chair on to an electric heater at her home this morning.
