PILE UP IN RACE TANGLE

SAN FRANCISCO, April 22. Eight drivers are in hospital at Santa Rosa (California) as a result of a sensational car race smash: Nineteen old-fashioned cars had been entered for a 100-mile “Derby.” Two cars locked wheels when travelling at 50 m.p.h. Very quickly, all 19 cars were piled up in front of the grandstand. .One car burst into flames, but the prompt appearance of firemen prevented what threatened to become a major disaster.
