FLAG INCIDENT

ON ANZAC DAY. (Australian Press Association). . . V SYDNEY, April 26. Referring to the swastika flag incident yesterday, at the German Consulate in Sydney, Doctor O. Seger, Acting-German Consul, in the absence of the Consul-General, who is en route to Germany,, said : “I am puzzled how, in this civilised city, such a misunderstanding should have arisen. I gave the instruction that our flag was to be hoisted at half mast yesterday, in honour of the dead Australian heroes, and it was not flown at full mast until I saw that all other flags were hoisted to full mast. However, I do not take the incident seriously, although the matter will be reported to the authorities in Germany.”

The police report to-day stated that the German flag at the Consulate was flown at half mast until noon yesterday. After tiiat it was raised to the masthead. N.Z. SCULPTOR.
