SPOUTS SECTION ARRANGED
. .At a meeting of the ,Physical Fitness Committee .held, on Monday, evening, Mr J. Taylor occupied the chair, the following members were present : Messrs. J. G. Johnstone, C. L. Harper, J. Muirhead, G. Adamson, J. Turner, D. Gillespie and E. W. Keenan
The Committee . recommended that the physical fitness campaign com mence in Hokitika on Wednesday, February 18,. and that the Mayor , b< asked to declare a holiday for the afternoon. . ■ The following programme was drawn up and approved by the Mayor:— 7 . RUNNING EVENTS. Boys’ races of..so,yards—6, 7,8/& 10,11, 12 years and under., 100 yards—l2, 13, 14, 15, 16 year? and open. . , . Same classes for.girls with the exception of the distances. . Special races.—44o yards for beys, open; 440 yards, 14 years and under, girls’ 220 yards,, open, Competitors will not he allowed, to use spiked boots. NOVELTY EVENTS. Boys.—Obstacle' race, under 9, 12, and .15 years and open. Jumping—High jump; under 12 and 15 and, open. Hop-step-and-junip.—Under 12 and 15 years and open.' GIRLS’ EVENTS. •' Three legged race—Under 9, 12, 15 and open.
Board-on-head race, for girls under 9, 12, 15 and open. Goal throwing for basketball players. ■■ ■: ■ :\, . ;;r :
Cycling races (only roadster machines to, be used).—School boys) (Primary), one lap of sqqare; (Secondary),. .one lap of square; (open), one lap of square. Messenger boy's’! race (Committee reserve right to handicap), v . Slow bike: race for girls under 12 and 15 years, and open, ‘ .. . ( .-,
Open events (no school .pupils allowed to enter),—loo,. 220. and 440 yards,
Basketball relay team of 4, distance 75 yards. . - Football relay team of .4, distance 100 yards: -
Married men’s, race. Married ladies’ race and single ladies’ race.
Tug of War. —Open to teams of 5 men. ■
Stepping the distance. The tug of war will,be the big event of the day. Already teams have nominated, and all societies ■ and committees are asked to nominate.
Sound system will be used for all announcements.
The Gymnastic .Club will give a special display. i,-! 5!.’ • ■
Special race will be on the programme for' businessmen. The Chairman and Air Heenan were authorised to interview the Mayor-to finalise all arrangements.
Air Taylor was appointed.sports supervisor for the day and Air Harper secretary. Mr Aluirliead, will he the official result steward. L .
The school events to be Open to pupils of all the schools in the Westland district.
D. Gillespie, was appointed to control the cycling.
H. Wells, J. Turner, G. Adamson and D. Todd to control all field events. Judges: AV. Stopforth, R. G. Milieu, A!. James, J., G. Johnstene. Starters: C. L. Harper and Rev. Dr Harrison.
Alessrs Gillespie and Adamson were appointed a grounds committee to confer with Mr B, Herring.
