WOOL SALES

?•';:: BIDDING ANIMATED

(Per Press Association.—Copyright)

WELLINGTON, February 15.

The third Wellington wool sale opened this .morning with a total offering of 14,703 bales, mostly topniaking wools. There was a full and representative bench of buyers, and from the start bidding was animated, althougn it was evident well-defined limits were operating. Judging from the first catalogues, prices are not quite up. to the January levels, but fully on : par with Invercargill and Dunedin, where the market showed an upward tendency. Comparison with the last Wellington sale in January was not altogether satisfactory ; as the wool offered then was superior to that offered to-day, which was described as indifferent. The bulk of the offering was AVairarapa and Manawatu crossbreds, with some Jialfbrecis from Marlborough and elsewhere. Growers showed a readiness to meet the -market, and passings were comparatively few.

Top prices this morning were 13j)d for ten bales of crossbred, and a line of C ewes brought 12|d. An unofficial range of early prices is as follows:—Southdown 9|d to lOd, hogget 9Jd to 10(d, Romney ewes 9)ci, Romney hogget 91 d, A ewes lOd to •lQfd, Lincolns lQjd, necks IOJ-d, pieces 8d to Bjd, bellies 7cl to 7jd, lambs 9jd to lljd, according to quality, halfbred lid.
