PRICE OF COAL

INCREASE ON WAIKATO PRODUCT. (Per Press Association--Copyright). WELLINGTON. December 12. As from, to-day the price to the public in Wellington for coal from the Waikato district will he increased on a basis of 2s 6d per ton. Mr-W. J. Mount,joy. Secretary of the Wellington Chill Merchants’ and Dealers’ Association, stated that the increase had been decided upon in consequence ot the receipt of notification from the mine owners that the cost of coal to them .would he increased by 2s per, ton. The new retail price for coat Will involve an increase of 2s 6d pei ton, Is 3d per half ton, 8d per quarter ton and 2d per cwt.
