ROYAL AIR FORCE EXPANSION. (Per British Official Wireless). RUGBY, September 20. In consequence of the expansion of' the Royal Air Force it has been decided to increase the strength of 'the airmen’s section of the reserve of the Royal Air Force by the direct enlistment of personnel with service experience. ..V The' scheme provides the opportuntunity for former airmen to be assured of returning to their former service in a time of emergency. The period of service is four years.
CONVICT’S DEATH IN PRISON. PHILADELPHIA, September 20 Arising from the deaths of four convicts who were found scalded to death in the isolation cells of a county prison on August 22, the deputy-warden, the guard captain and two guards have been charged with murder.. Five guards have been charged with manslaughter.
ATTEMPT ON AIR RECORD. RTJGBY, September 20. The Maia, the lower component of the Mayo composite aircraft, flew'yesterday from Southampton to Dundee, where it will await the arrival of the upper component, the Mercury, which has been undergoing an overhaul at Rochester. , , From the Mercury, which will be launched from the back of the Maia, will set off on a date not yet fixed, for Cape Town in an attempt to break the world’s long distance record.
