The mileage per gallon of fuel was 18.59, compared with 17.90 last year, an improvement of 0.69 of a mile. This service is maintained primarily for the purpose of conveying newspapers from Christchurch to the West Coast of the South Island, accommodation for passengers being limited to nineteen persons in each of two small Diesel units operating the service.
