EMPIRE MATCH RESULTS WELLINGTON, June 21. The National UiHe Association has issued the Jesuits in tile 193/ mutch lor the h ing George V' trophy and aw..nls in the lmperiad Challenge Shields competitions throughout the Empire. These competitions for miniature rifle shooting have been conducted annually since 1910 to encourage boys of British birth between the ages of 12 and 19 to learn how to use the rifle.
The King George V trophy was won by South Africa for the eighth time since its presentation in 1925 by King George V. South Africa’s strong, with an average of 86.484 points, an improvement of 2.5 points over its winning score the previous year, has .established a further record. Great Britain took second place with an aveiage of 84.84 and New Zealand third place with an average of 77.33. Britain’s and New Zealand’s scores were slightly lower than in 1936. Neither Canada nor Australia produced sufficient competitors to qualify. The honours list of the best 100 units in the Empire includes 14 New Zealand units headed by St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream, which won a trophy presented by Earl Jellicoe when Gov-rnor-General of New Zealand. lhis unit was fourteenth in the Empire order of merit. Roxborough High School was next among the New Zealand units, then Rotorua High, St. Andrew’s College, McGlashan’s College, Christ’s College, St. Bede's College, Waitaki Boys’ High School, Winton District High, Auckland Grammar, Wanganui College, Southland Boys’ High. Wanganui Technical and Christchurch West High.
