(Received this day at 12 noon). CANBERRA, April 28
The Prime Minister, Hon. S. A. L,vons j in a statement in the House on foreign affairs, said that although there had been an easing in the tension of the international situation there was still cause for anxiety. Points in Mr Lyons statement were that Australia supported Mr Neville Chamberlain in his dispute with Mr R: A. Eden (ex-foreign secretary). Aus. traiia still adheres firmly to the policy, of support of the League of Nations. 7 Australia impressed on the British Government that it believed the reopening of talks with Italy were of the utmost importance. The Commonwealth Government adheres to the policy of strict neutrality and non-intervention in internal disputes of other countries. Mr Curtin demanded that the foreign policy should be debated before the defence programme was discussed and he accused Mr Lyons of. trying to create a war-hysteria in Australia from which profiteers would reap a harvest. ;
