INCREASE IN MILK CONSUMPTION

■AUCKLAND, February 11,

Aucklanders consumed over one million gallons more milk last year than in 1936, according to a report submitted at the annual meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council this morning. In the Council’s area, a total of 7,833.700 gallons were sold iucxtuxing cream. The increase was due partly to the fact of schools milk distribution throughout the year and partly owing to an increase iu business done by milk bars. “It is evident that, the public ate realising more fully the nutritive value of milk,” commented the chairman, Mr I. J. Goldstone, who was re-elected chairman.

OLD COAL HULK BEACHED

CHRISTCHURCH, February 11. After being stripped of all saleable parts, the hulk Frank Guy was towed to Quail Island yesterday morning by the tug Lyttelton, and beached on the south-west side of the island, alongside several other derelict vessels. Tlie Frank Guy was formerly a barquentine engaged in the intercolonial trade, and: was bought more than 30 years ago by the Westport Coal Company. For a few years she carried coal from AVestport ito various coastal ports, until about 29 years ago, when she was converted into a hulk at Lyttelton, for the storage of coal. Condemned about a year ago, the Frank Guy was sold to a shipbreaking company. As it was deemed to be un profittabie to break the hull up for firewood, it was beached at high tioe yesterday. BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR. NEW PLYMOUTH, February 11. The body of Reginald Davis, need I§, who was drowned in the-New Ply-, mouth harbour when a canvas canoe in which lie and three other young men were cruising capsized on Tuesday night, was recovered this morning. A Harbour Board watchman saw the body floating close to the shore. An inquest for identification was held this afternoon.
