Jack Mann, aged 38, an engineer, j was to-day sentenced to five years’ itn- \ prisonment for obtaining one thous- , and pounds from Mrs Cristina Brem- - ner, of Hawthorn, with intent to tie-, j Baud, hv “laliely pietending that he was in the habit of working a commission for the jockey Andy Knox, and that lie himself was placing £3OO on a certain racehorse.” The Judge said that apparently, Mann had obtained six thousand pounds , but other chargas were being abandoned. The woman had been cruelly defrauded.
