DIRECTORS' APPOINTED. ; A largely attended meeting of shareholders of the new - Westland 00-opei-utive Dairy Company was held in th« Town Dali yesterday Mr DJ. Evans presiding. The 'purpose 'of’ -the meeting was to appoint the recently nominated district. directors to fill vacancies made possible by voluntary resignations of provisional directors. The district nominations were as follows: KokatahiKoiterangi, Messrs M. Wallace, J. Smith, W. A. Jamieson, J. Monlc and N. Harris; Arahura, Mr C. Cook; I loss, Mr J. Thomson and Waitaha, Mr ,T, Martin. .There being no further nominations ami the number proposed equalling the positions requiring replacement, all were appointed directors lu retain ‘office for the ensuing twelve months.
Interesting and instructive speeches were made by Messrs D. J. Evans (Chairman of Directors ol the \\ ostland Cool Storage and Dairy Company), Mark Wallace and W. A. Jamieson (County Chairman). Speakers stressed tho mauy advantages to be gained bv amalgamation and congratulated the farming community on its present achievement. The establishment of one Co-operative dairy factory lor the combined manufacture of the districts output, was the most important ami commendable step taken by the farmers locally for many years. Increased returns for butterfat as proved elsewhere throughout the Dominion by similar combinations, would assuredly follow', and farmers of Westland appear ■to be emtering a new era of greater prosperity. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
Subsequent to the shareholders meeting the new Board of Directors met for the purpose of appointing a chairman. Mr Mark Wallace, Chairman. The secretary (Mr Parry) advised the meeting of the necessary procedure and called for nominations for chairman. The nomination of Mr M. Wallace (51 r Jamieson declining in favour ol Ah’ Wallace) .was put to tlie meeting and carried unanimously amidst applause. In rising to thank directors, Air Wallace said they knew he was one of the prime movers in the amalgamation scheme. He had also been a director of the Kokatalii Dairy Company for many years, and also occupied at one time the position as manager of a Dairy Company. With past experience, said Air Wallace, he was guided in this direction of amalgamation, and be bad endeavoured wherever" possible to leave lto stone unturned towards obtaining the unnnimiutiy of the producers in order to bring such amalgamation of interests to a successful fruition.
There were many setbacks and in the appointment of district directors some hard knocks were shown. Nevertheless said the speaker, all these obstacles bad been overcome with ultimate satisfaction to all parties. He felt the directorate chosen by the producers and finally by the shareholders, represented a very wise choice. In conclusion he would do his utmost to merit the confidence and trust conferred and the responsible position entrusted to him. All present eulogised Air Wallace’s efforts towards betterment of the farming community.
