ARUNDEL MURDER

INFORMATION OF CAR SOUGHT. (Per Press Association —Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH, September 15. Most of the police officers who have been at Geraldine engaged on the inquiry into the death of William Gaby, the 73-year-old storekeeper of Arundel. who was found dead at his residence, returned to their respec.ivo stations to-day.

Four detectives, Detective-Sergeant J. Bickerdike (Christchurch), Detective N. Thompson (Christchurch), De-tective-Sergeant E. M. Thomas (Timaru), and Detective N. Kemp (Tiniani) will remain in the district for the present to complete the investigations, with Constable D. Callanan of Geraldine.

Superintendent A. Cameron returned to Christchurch to-day. No information lias yet been received by the police about the car which picked up a man a few miles south of Arundel, on the Main South Road, about 9 o’clock on the night of the tragedy. The police are anxious that the driver or the owner should communicate with them, and they were advised this evening that the car was a Chevrolet, and not an Essex, as previously stated. The driver of the ear was unaccompanied, the police state, until he picked up the man near Arundel, and gave him a ride to Timaru. • A police constable was stationed at Gaby’s store to-day. and to-morrow it will be taken over by the Public Trustee.
