BOWLING

NELSON TEAM RETURNS. TOO. IN AUSTRALIA. (Per Press Association —Copyright;. WELLINGTON, September 13. Thirteen Nelson bowlers, men and women, arrived at Wellington by the Awatea to-day after a successful tour of Now South Wales and Qhieiisland. Tlio manager, Mr W. A. Dee, said that since they left New Zealand at the end of May they laid played 64 matches, won 44, drawn two, and lost 18. The standard of howling in Australia was not up to the best New Zealand play, said Mr Dee. Members of the team, however, took some time to adjust themselves to the heavier Australian greens, and lost the first eight matches for that reason. Greens in Australia were longer, 12b feet, compared with 112 in New Zealand. The couch grasses with which they were planted were much heavier, and did not wear hare at the ends as did New Zealand greens. At present they were trying the cultivation of a brown top mixture to improve the greens.

Air Dee said his team had met the nick of Australian players in the districts they had travelled. The tenors performances were very much better than anything they had anticipated.
