ALARM SYSTEM

TO ELIMINATE FALSE CALLS. RUGBY, September 13. A new fire alarm system, designed to eliminate false calls through technical faults, which cause about 9000 miles of needless running by fire engines each year, has undergone a satisfactory trial in an important London area. An extension of the system to the whole of London is now likely. The new system is of the closed circuit, code signalling type, in which all the apparatus —street boxes, gongs, recorders, and battery—form a single series circuit. Pulling the handle of the box causes a code number to be punched on a tape machine at the fire station, making a permanent record. While the bell rings in the watch room the word “fire” is illuminated on a switchboard and red lamps flash. aagpwßiiwaßßaiiawwiißai^
