EFFECT ON MINING CONCERNS. (Per Press Association —Copyright). WELLINGTON, September 14. An inquiry whether the Minister for Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) was prepared to introduce legislation exempting English mining companies operating in New Zealand from the payment of me gold export tax was made by Mr W. A. Bodkin (National, Central Otago) in giving notice of a question in the House of Representatives ’ today. Mr Bodkin stated that such companies, whose shareholders • were all residents of Great Britain, received no benefit from the exchange rate, and the effect of the export tax was to penalise the overseas investor.
