Critics reviewing the tour, comment on the tourists’ successes from the middle of June, mentioning that tun of the tour losses since then were due to wickets breaking up on the third day.
“The Cricketer” says the batsmen in the early part of the tour played back too much, and names Wallace, Donnelly and Cowie, as outstanding players. It also praises Vivian and Dunning for their steady bowling, and Page for his fighting innings in the main matches.
■“The Times” calls Donnelly a cricketing Jacobite. It says he is always at his best- when fighting a. losing cause. Howard Marshall in the “Telegraph”, comments on the severity of the programme, saying with next to no rain to provide days off, the players were practically worn out by the end of the tour.
The “Sunday Dispatch” commenting on the Irish match, gravely advises spectators to arrive early for the return game, so as not to miss the drawing of stumps.
