BOXING

TOURNEY CONCLUDES. (Per Press Association —Copyrightj. GREYAtOUTH, September 12. With a packed house, the annual tournament of the New Zealand Boxing Association concluded at the Town Hall on Saturday night in a very suceessiul manner. The boxing was ahv ys interesting, and in the great majority of bouts, fairly even, while there was only one knock out. Notable performances were those of H. Sheridan, in tlie flyweight final; J. Collins, who beat a good boy in Kelly; Withell, in winning iron! W. Lister, and D. Heeney, who come out on top in two strenuous bouts to win the welter title. Not less meiitorious in any way was the recovery of the Taranakite, L. Hivsziff, in his two welter bouts, after being downed in eacli for various counts. Parr (Otago) though defeated boxed cleverly against Parker, who won the bantam title. A disappointment was the disqualification of N. Fisher (Christchurch), m tlie lightweight class, after showing a marked superiority over R. Davey for landing a punch after the gong which downed his opponent, they having both continued as the gongWvent. Another disappointment was tee fact that B. McKay (Hamilton) owing to a severe injury over the eye, hau to default to K. Aloran, winner of the feather-weight championship. Two of Canterbury’s representatives at the New Zealand boxing championships at Greymouth. T. Lister and R. Withell. both of Ashburton, were successful in winning national titles in the light-heavyweight and heavy-we’ght divisions on Saturday night when finals in all weights were decided. Boxers from all parts of the Dominion competed in the championships to make the tournament a most successful one.

The following are the winners of this year’s championships:— Fly-weight—H. Sheridan (Auck'a'-d). Bantam-weight—J. Parker (We lington). Feather-weight—K. Aloran (Auckland). Light-weight—J. Collins (Alanawatu). Welter-weight—l). Heeney (Gisborne). Middle-weight A. Sutherland (Southland). Light-heavy-weight—T. Lister (Ashburton). Heavy-weight—ll. Withell (Ashburton). NK US EL’S CHALLENGE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, September 9. Walter Nousel has arrived in London from Berlin. He said that he is challenging Farr for £IOOO a side.
