BURNED ALIVE

TUNIS, August 13.
Thirty survivors of. the Spanish Government tanker Campeador accuse Italian destroyers of sinking the .vessel. They state that 12 of the crew were trapped in the engineroom and burned alive in blazing oil.
The Italian warship Saetta circled round the Campeador and was later joined by another. A destroyer which was not flying a flag followed. They shelled the Campeador at nightfall and continued the shelling as the boats were lowered. The {Campeador is still burning and a French naval cutter is guarding her.
A Valencia message says that tnree were killed and nine injured when the Government destroyer Churruca was torpedoed by an unknown submarine. The destroyer then returned to Cartagena or repairs.
SHORTAGE OF MEN
LONDON. August 12
The. “Daily Telegraph’s’’ special correspondent states: Both sides are paralysed; for lack of the manpower necessary to garrison Die 1150-mile front winding from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean. The insurgents during recent assaults have shown no weight in their punch. Indications are that the war will long continue. Certainly; there is no danger of Madrid cracking under the strain.
JOURNA LISTS EXPELLED
BIARRITZ, August 12
Count do los Andres, General Franco’s representative at Biarritz, and Herr von Godd, correspondent for the Official German News Agency at St. Jean de Lnz have been served with expulsion orders. No reason was given.
CANADA’S BAN. OTTAWA, August 12
The Government proclaimed a, ban on passports for enlistments and visits to Spain. Except where the visits are proved to he for business or journalism, they go at their own risk and there will he no obligation for their protection. The Mayor of Vancouver, has prohibited Radical demonstrations at tho German-ltalian Consulates, on behalf of Madrid.
REFUGEES. NOT WANTED

Prance lias informed Britain that vhe cannot accept more Spanish refugees. Already accommodation has been made for 45 thousand.
ITALIAN PROTEST. ROME, August 13
The Italian Government is protesting against, the accusation that Saetti sank the Campeador.
