BURNED ALIVE

CHARCE AG'AIN.ST ITALIANS.

TUNIS, August 13.

Thirty survivors of. the Spanish Government tanker Campeador accuse Italian destroyers of sinking the .vessel. They state that 12 of the crew were trapped in the engineroom and burned alive in blazing oil.

The Italian warship Saetta circled round the Campeador and was later joined by another. A destroyer which was not flying a flag followed. They shelled the Campeador at nightfall and continued the shelling as the boats were lowered. The {Campeador is still burning and a French naval cutter is guarding her.

A Valencia message says that tnree were killed and nine injured when the Government destroyer Churruca was torpedoed by an unknown submarine. The destroyer then returned to Cartagena or repairs.

SHORTAGE OF MEN

LONDON. August 12

The. “Daily Telegraph’s’’ special correspondent states: Both sides are paralysed; for lack of the manpower necessary to garrison Die 1150-mile front winding from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean. The insurgents during recent assaults have shown no weight in their punch. Indications are that the war will long continue. Certainly; there is no danger of Madrid cracking under the strain.

JOURNA LISTS EXPELLED
