The action of the Presbyterian Church authorities in offering a section of land to the ~Wafiau River Borough fCr £IOO, the section in question being required for town improvement purposes, aroused criticism from the chairman of the River Board (Mr E. S. Parker). . A;, r
Referring to the' matter at ‘ a board meeting; Mr Parker said , that .the property could not be left as aneyesore for the public of (Blenheim, and as an indication of the lack ,of ■ gonter-psity of, the Church authorities. “This is a block to the progress of the town, and I am going to have an armimeiit with some of. them,” said. x,,r Parker. “I jyilL tell them that £2O. is the most they’ ? eait obtain. It will burn their church,'out'/some day, because we will .not . clean the section up in future,. They can run the fire risk and it cannot.shurt anyone else.” Mr ,Parker said 'that £IOO was an outrageous and ridiculous “ price and insisted upon a /“without thanks” clause being ■ incorporated in' the motion declining the offer.
