FENGTAI INCIDENT (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). PEKING, July 9. A minor clash at dawn preceded the withdrawal of the Chinese ami Japanese forces te < opposite banks of the Yungting river at Fongtat. The Chinese ; Foreign Office protested to Tokyo about Japan s piovocative activities. The Japanese Ambassador is hastening to Nanking in an endeavour to reach an imicable settlement of the incident. A WITHDRAWAL OF TROOPS (Received this day at 10.45 a.m.) PEKING, July 9. After a brief clash due to a further misunderstanding, the Chinese military replaced Chinese regulars occupying the Wangping area. In accordance with an agreement, the majority of Japanese have been withdrawn.
