A message from Hartford, in Connecticut, states that Hanry Roraback, the Republican Party Leader in the State of Connecticul for the past twenty-five years, committed suicide. He has been ill for two years?** * '* A DUST STORM CALGARY, May 19. A dust-storm, which lasted an hour, cut a 20-mile swath in the Strathmore district. Two farmers were injured, crops were destroyed and buildings wrecked. A lnmdrad families had to flee from dust-laden homes to escape suffocation. MURDER CASE REVIVED. DIARIES OF FILM ACTRESS. LOS ANGELES, May 8. A sensational murder case which disturbed the American film world 15 years ago has been reopened by the Los Angeles police. The case concerns the murder, in February, 1922, oF William Desmond Taylor, famous film director. ■' The investigations linked the name of Taylor’s fiancee, the then wellknown film actress, Mary Miles Minter, with the affair. The police say they have now discovered new evidence. They have seized diaries alleged to have been kept by Miss Minter both before and after the murder.
Evidence was given before a grand jury to-day by Mrs Margaret Shelby Fillmore, Miss Minter’s sister. .She alleged that there has * been a love affair between her sister and James Kirkwood, former silent film star, now playing on the legitimate theatre in New York. She also described a wedding ceremony which she alleged had taken place between Kirkwood and Miss Minter. Kirkwood has been asked to m&ke a statement.
