JAP. INTERESTS

PLEA TO PURIFY POLITICS.

PRIME MINISTER’S PLANS

TOIvIO, April 17

In a recent address to voters, the Prime Minister, General Hayashi, urged them to elect a Diet of publicspirited men, who would place nat onal interests first, in the general elections on April 30. lie reminded them that the elections were being held at a time when new methods of solving Japan’s problems must be found. Electors must do their part to purify politics and help sound governments, the Prime Minister added:

After the elections, an extra session of the Diet may be called for 10 days during July to debate Government measures. Among these measures are the Military Secrets Bill, which failed to pass, the Diet dissolved last month, a national health insurance bill, and an election law revision bill.

Japan’s future foreign policy will be based on fair diplomacy and understanding of international conditions, said General Hayashi in an earlier interview. He did not intend to establish a New Party Government. The Prime Minister would not support special people or intervene unreasonably during the general elections for the new Diet. The Government was not so much concerned with political power as with strengthening Japanese sentiment to deal with the country’s difficulties.
