LATE LOCALS
While working in Wiseman’s Dip, m the Coalzrookdale mine, Mr W. Hainsworth met with a painful accident. The handle of his axe struck a tramroad sleeper. The blade was diverted and hit one of his wrists, causing a very dangerous wound. A large row boat owned by Mr G. Michel, which was tied up above the railway bridge, broke away during the flood last night, and went over the bar. being found on the beach this morning badly smashed. The death of Mr William Saunders took place this morning at the residence of hi« niece, Mrs J, Duncan, kitzherbprt Street. Ihe deceased was a native of Rakaia and was 00 years of age. He was a returned soldier, ha-' ing served on the Western Front in Era nee, and previously worked at Ashburton for 30 years. He had been suffering from the effects of his war in- : juries since his return He leaves a sister, Mr Christenson, senr., of Bealey street.
