WELLINGTON NOT SUITABLE’
AS A TERMINL AIR BASE

“The reports we have received indi-, cate tiiat Wellington is not suitable for an air base,’’ was the chief point in replv given by the Postmaster-Gen-eral (the Hon F. Jones) in reply to a' deputation from the Wellington Chaiiiber of Commerce, which placed before him claims of Wellington to be the terminal of the trans-Tasman air service Mr Jones undertook, howPver, to allow the Chamber to place before experts who a re advising the Government, its views on the suitability of Wellington. He saidi the weather was not always suitable, and tlie high Hills round the harbour cut .down the area available for landing. .The hills also produced dangerou iS . eddies and air currents. He said the Government would not be influenced in the selection of the terminal by any outside private interests. The Government would determine the terminus on the advice of experts.
