KING EDWARD

FANTASTIC REPORTS IN U.S.A

NEW YORK, Nov. 10

Fantastic reports have been published in the Press throughout America and reported in nation-wide broadcasts that King Edward intends to marry Mrs Simpson a month after the Coronation—that is, 'next June. For months past American newspapers have taken tremendous interest in the friendship of King Edward and Mrs. Simpson, and numerous photographs were published . showing the King and Mrs Simpson in various capitals during the recent yachting tour of the King.

An example of unbridled speculation indulged in hv the American papers is the following quotation from the New York American :

“The King of England i s definitely convinced that thus step will be both right and wise. ’ He feels that he is equally entitled, with the Duke of York, to marry outside Royalty, and that a marriage with an American would bind England and America more closely together and thereby prove a most important thing for world peace.”

[Mrs Simpson, who was born in Baltimore, U.S.A., is better known in English than American society, owing to the fact that she has spent most of her adult life in England. Her first husband was an American NaVal officer, Commander Earl Winfield Spencer, whom she divorced. In 1928 she married Ernest A. Simpson. a Canadian ship-broker, who later served as an officer in the Grenadier Guards. He has now retired from the Guards and is a member of the chartering firm of Simpson, Spence, and Young, London.]
