MANY FIRES
WELLINGTON GUY FAWKES DAY. “LICENSED INCENDIARISM. (Per Press • Association—Copyright). / ■ V . | WELLINGTON, November 6. What was described as the “licensed incendiarism of Guy Fawkes day” resulted in a record evening for the central fire brigade, which answered thirty calls to fires. Headquarters presented an animated scene, and the fact that each fire was reported on an average by half a dozen persons kept six or seven officers of the brigade busily engaged, v All the calls were to outbreaks in gorse, pine trees, scrub and hedges. Considering the number of fireworks let off in the very heart of the city, it is remarkable no more serious damage resulted. \ At Hutt Valley, where the celebrations were carried out' on the open beach, the fire brigade enjoyed au uninterrupted social evening.
