A ROMANCE
A COMING WEDDING. “The last shall be first and tbe first will be last.’’ \\ hen Lord Baden Powell, Lady Baden Powell, and their two daughters, Heather and Betty toured the West Coast about two years ago, they spent a short time in Boss. As a memento of their Hsit to Boss, Mr John Murdoch presented Lady Baden Powell with » crystal suggesting that she should give it to the daughter who married first.
Betty being the younger thought her sister had the best chance but according to the latest news from the Homeland, Miss Betty has had her romance. “Two happy coincidences are connected with the announcement made last week that Miss Betty St. Clair Baden Powell, younger daughter of Lord Baden Pow ell, the Chief Scout and of Lady Baden Powell is to marry Mr Gervas Charles Robert Clay, District Officer in the Administrative Service of (Northern Rhodesia, at Bently, Hants, next month. Miss Betty is 19 and her fiance ia 29. Besides sharing the same birthday as Miss Betty’s parents do, the young couple’s •.romance began on a liner in like manner to Lord and Lady Baden Powell’s. They met whilst on the return journey after the long, tour which Lord and Lady Baden Powell with their two daughters had been making in Africa. Mr Clay who has been in South Africa six years, happened to he returning home on leave. “We shall be sailing for South Africa the day after the wedding and we will live in Northern Rhodesia” said Miss Betty with a happy smile on her face.
