At Caulfield races yesterday the well-known hurdler, Sixteen Annas, was killed in the Leamington Hurdles failing at the second last jump, breaking Ins neck. The rider, Maher, escaped with a shaking. The Grand National Steeples winner, Santa Casa, won the Godfrey Watson Steeplechase by only threequarters of a length, coming from almost a hopeless position, a long way back The chief results were: — Murrumbeena Handicap—Gay Friar 1. Jack Horner 2, Dusky Native 3. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time 2.39 L Leamington Hurdles—Cold Spring 1, Cape Race 2, Brilliant Son 3. Won by a neck.
