The retention of Hawkins class cruisers is still under discussion among the British, Japanese, and United States Governments, and it is understood that this was the subject of separate .■comnmnJSi’tions made to the Japanese and American Ambassadors to-day, iri which His Majesty’s Government set out the reason why it does not consider the retention of these cruisers as contrary to tlie treaty.
