England demonstrated its Rugby League supremacy in no uncertain manner by defeating Australia by 12 points to 7 in the third test. Ihe visitors received the Goodwill Cup presented by Mr R. 0. Courtney, et Christchurch, both teams lining up for : the presentation round a beflagged | dais. j England was definitely superi >r in all phases, completely answering .all challenges regarding its first tost iuforibrity. The visitors then were travelstained, injiuies preventing the fielding of a full strength team. Meanwhile, they had built up their combination aiid had a psychological advantage by their second test victory 011 a heavy ground at Brisbane. The Australian selectors made /the dreadful mistake of abandoning their policy of specialist skid and pace, adopting instead a policy of matching the front row strength. The inclusion of the tliirty-eight-yenr-old Madsen hooking for the first time made no difference to England’s winning of tlie scrums. With a feast of possession, England’s hacks gave a display in safe artistry, the side thoroughly deserving the Ashes.
