A rare species of bird was seen on a road in the Kokatahi district this week. In form it was very similar to a white heron, standing about 30 inches in height, but it was mauve in colour, with very long dullish-yellow legs, with a black beak about four inches long. It is thought by those who saw it that the visitor was a blue crane. After about half an hour it took to the air again.
