STRANGE CHARGE
LAID BY POLICE.
SYDNEY, May 1
One of the strangest charges in New South Wales police history was preferred against a man at Newtown Police Station last night. The charge was made following investigations by detectives under De-tective-Inspector Smith. ~ ft read:—
“That by means of certain false statements —to wit, that about three weeks before the sixth day of January, 1036, a man about 32 years of age, and who resided in an old weatherboard cottage, murdered his wife. “And that he, the said defendant, assisted that man to convey the body of the wife to a paddock off Euston Road Alexandria, where it was buried 3 J
“Causing certain officers of the State, maintained at the public expense for the public benefit, to devote their time and services to the investigation fa false allegations, thereby temporarily depriving the public of the services of these officers.
“And rendering liege subjects of the King liable to suspicion, accusation, and arrest, and in so doing did unlawfully effect a public mischief.”
