FEDERAL LOAN
QUOTED AT DISCOUNT
(United 'Press Association —By Electric . .. . .. Telegraph—Copyright)
(Received this day at 1.40 p.m.) LONDON, January 16.
The underwriters took up fifty per cent of the Australian loan. Dealings started at fifteen shillings discount. The result depressed gilted-egeds. ahe possible explanation is that the bulk of the old New South Wales loan is held on the money market-, which found the new long-dated stock unsuitable to its needs. Consequently conversions -are unsatisfactory, but the underwriters are not disturbed.
