The team comprises Miss Phyllis Wade, Miss Jessie Anderson, Miss Pamela Barton,® Mrs Walker, Mrs Greenlees and Mrs Hodson (team manager). They are approaching the tour in a spirit 'of high adventure, though they realise that, in. spite of' the. fact that every player is an ex-champion, the matches in Australia will not be picnics. Mrs Hodson explained that they hope, to s ee the Australian back country. with a day or two on a cattle oi’ sheep station.
“A r cs. and the kangaroo in its native haunts,” interposed Miss Barton. The ordv match practice will bp against the Willingclon; Club at Bombay. Critics expect that the team s short game will be a deciding factor in Australia, as all are experts with the niasliie and are sound and reliable putters. WHY AMERICANS WIN. LONDON, July 27. Many Englishmen have wondered,, and a lew have known, the reason for the continued superiority of American over English goiters. At St. Anne’s, where the Amateur Golf Championship was played, W. Lawson Little, the American holder, supplied the perfect commentary, says an English writer. On the first day, he had been in trouble with his iron shots. The following day, more than an hour before lie was due to start, right away from the crowd, on a desolate part of the women’s course, I found him all alone, hitting iron shots to his caddie. 1 watched him for an hour, and during that time I counted mote than 200 shots, and saw him use each of his 19 iron clubs in turn, until he was satisfied with it,. When he had finished with his irons lie took out his wooden clubs and carried on the good work with them also. Afterwards 1 saw one of our own internationals practising. He had only one club.
