GENERAL UPWARD TREND

SYDNEY, May 30
The Premier (Mr Stevens) said that conditions of industry in that State were steadily improving. He said that in every essential the trend was upward and the cumulative effect must »e highly beneficial to the whole community.
“Tlie value of sales registered wholesalers for .March, for example,” lie said, “had risen from £9,640,000 in 1931 to £12,390,000 this year, the highest for fifiat month in any year since tin' sales tax was introduced. Tho sales for March, 1935, were not only 30 per cent hotter than those for March, 1932, hut also UR per cent, above those for March 1931, despite the fact that successive legislative changes had reduced the number of wholesalers, and thus the proportion of wholesale trade covered by the returns.

“Wireless licenses are steadily increasing in number. On April 30 there were 273,854 in existence, an increase of 61,406 for the year. In April 30, ]932, the number was only 135.014. Gas and electricity consumption shows the same upward trend, for the index monthly sales for April was higher than for the corresponding month of any year since 1929.
