INTERESTS IN BRITAIN

Important oil interests, including the Anglo-Persian Company, in which the Government is a shareholder, have already applied for prospecting licenses, in Britain, to be issued next month.
The chances of finding oil in large commercial quantities in Britain is still a gamble, says the “News-Clironicle”. Some experts believe there ate supplies large ■ enough to mak 'Britain independent of her present foreign sources in the event of war.
Others, including some of the Government's advisers, feel that oil-bear-ing strata in Britain are small and localised. Nevertheless, believers in home oil have already intimated to- the Board of Trade that they are prepared to- back their opinions with large sums of money, i'
