The official opening of the new IYA broadcast transmitter . and studio building was performed to-night by the PoktmhSter-Geaeral '.the Hon., Adam Hamilton). ■Mr Hamilton briefly reviewed the history of broadcasting in New Zealand. 'Statistical comparisons, said Mr Hamilton, showed that New Zealand stood relatively high in the “density” of listeners among the countries cf the world. It was estimated that one house in three had the radio installed, and a. prophecy that this proportion would he double in a few years might not be wide of the ina rk. The new station, said Mr Hamilton, was the most powerful in Australia or New Zealand.
