ADDINGTON STOCK SALES.

(Per Press Association, Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH Jan. 23. Mutton and lamb sold well to-day at Addington.’ There were barely 3000 fat lambs yarded, most of them showing signs of drought conditions. Only some odd small 'pens of outstanding lambs wer e offered, • which met with keen competition from the butchers. It was a good sound sale throughout. Medium lots -appreciated in value up to Is per head, and' the better grades to Is fid per head or better. There was a full yarding of muttn, ewes predominating. The sale was a good on e throughout,! although ( with most of the lots being light to inferior, the butchers were -keen fr the primest lots.

There were over 7000 store lambs offered. The quality was below last week’s standard. Sales were realised at late rates although with less animation in the bidding. Forward lots sold keenly, with little change from last week’s rates.

There was a small offering of adult store sheep. Good young sheep found buyers at late rates. Buyers were cautious on the other grades.

The beef entry was slightly smaller although it was more than requirements. The quality was very • mediocre j there being only a few good consignments. djfhe ' (market' hvais easier. Values per hundred lbs were: Best prime haady weight steers 20s to 225, prim e 19s to 20s, medium 16s to 18s, inferior from 15s; best heifers 19s to 20s, medium 18 s to 19s ? plain from 16s;- best cows 17s to 18s, prime 15s to 16s, inferior from 10s.

There was a medium yarding of,fat pigs. Porkers opened at a slight advance at the early stages j but receded to last week’s rates, and remained firm at those values throughout. There was keen competition for baeoners up to the buyers’ limits. Porkers fetched 28s 6d to 34s 6d, heavier 37s 6d to 42s fid; baeoners 53s fid to £3 heavy £3 os 6cl to £3 lls 6d, extra heavy to £3 14s fid. Store pigs were easier.
