N.S.W. AGITATION
FOR FORMATION OF NEW STATE
(Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY", January 227 The report- of the Royal Commissioner, Mr Justice 11. S. Nicholas, who last year inquired into the agtitation for a new state within New South Wales was tabled in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly to-day. The Commissioner declared that, although no purely rutfal area could be recommended for self government within the Commonwealth, be would express the opinion that there wore two areas that were suitable for self government. One would be an area including the whole of the north coast of the State, also the New England district, and extending thence south to Newcastle. The other would be an area embracing the whole of the cenral portion of the S-dite, including Bathurst and Goulburn, and part of the Riverina.. The Commissioner recommends that a separate referendum should he taken in each of the affected areas in order to ascertain the opinion of the electors, while the Government should make information available concerning the advantages ami the disadvantages of new .self governing States.
