Lady CaillarJ was cremated, in accordance with the rites she drew up, indicating a joyful departure. Barbauell conducted the service. Viscount Molesworth in an address said:—“lt is not her death, but her 'birth.” Oskenonton sang “Rock of Ages,” and “There Is No Death.” The ceremony was .photographed in order to ascertain whether spirits were present.
SMITHY’S PLANS SUVA, January 22. • Sir Charles Kings ford Smith who is a pasenger by the Monterey for Sydney, said he iliopes to capitalise Kingsford Smith Airways into a larger company, and manufacture Lockheed and other American planes, for which he holds licenses. Taylor is probaldy returning to Australia by the Mariposa.

TRADE AGREEMENT
OTTAWA, January 21. The announcement in Washington of the intention of the United States to negotiate a trade agreement with Canada, was conveyed to the House by Mr Bennett.
CHINESE RAILWAY TRANSFER
TOK.IO, January 22
The materialisation of the transferof the Chinese Eastern Railway from the Soviet has ended, thus concluding nineteen months’ negotiations. The price 'is 170.000.000 yen. The transfer will be effected in February. It is exnected that Britain will benefit hugely by the transfer, from the nurt-lia.se of railway equipment when Manohukuo begins the reconstruction and unification of the car lines.
FRENCH TROOPS MASSACRED
DJIBOUTI. January 21
Marauding tribesmen from the Abyssinian border provinces have carried out a massacre in French territory. A French administrative officer, eighteen troops, and eighty-eight Somalis were massacred.
NINETEEN BELIEVED DROWNED
KARACHI, January 22. Nineteen persons are believed to have been drowned when a dhow with twen-ty-five aboard sank in a squall. Six swam ashore.
