ADMISSION OF ’VARSITY MEN.

CHRISTCHURCH Jan. 22. That a strong case exists for an effort to improve the standards in the New Zealand Civil Service by the admission of University graduates, "as the opinion expressed by some members at the meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand today.

It was stated, during the debate, (hat, although the civil servants were encouraged to study lor degrees the best students that were leaving the University were the full time students, who would not complete their course till they reached the age of from 21 to 21 years, at which age it was not possible for them to enter the .Government service, except as specialists. Tu snob positions, is was stated, ’they would have no opportunity of attaining the higher administrative posts. The executive was empowered to make representations to the Government on the matter.
