Grounds, a member of the Dairy Board, lajst evening * »t a meeting which demanded the repeal of the Agricultural Emergency Powers Act, said that in the eulogies of the late W. Dynes Fulton, it had been said he would undoubtedly have occupied a greater position. “1 believe that is quite true,” said Air Grounds, “but I no not believe he would have allowed himself to be used to the detriment of the industry. As a result of my very intimate contact with him 1 say definitely 1 do not believe Mr Fulton would have allowed himself Lo be used *to hamstring the dairy industry on to the end of the right of self-determination in our political interests, and in our dairy industry.” Mr Fulton being a man of the highest integrity would never have stood for interference with that heritage of freedom of political action which our forefathers fought for and prized.
FAMOUS MAORI PASSES
ROTORUA, January 15. Wita Taupopoki, one of the most outstanding figures in the A raw a Confederation of Tribes, and probably the most well-known 'Maori chief of the present day died at a private hospital inßotorua last evening. The aged chief who was eighty-nine at his death was a descendant of Ngati YVahio, the ori-
ginal owners of Whakarewarewa reserve. He bad been noted for bis stiong pei-sona-lity, the force of which gave him the mana. and authority of leadership at the Hapu following the death of Mapor Kepa Terangi Puwahe. He was master of the Maori tradition, legend ami genealogy and also a brilliant orator, well-known by visitors by his picturesque regalia.
