DECADENT TOWN

POLICE STATION REMOVED

{Per Press Association.—Copyright.)

GISBORNE, tfaii’ju'y .15.

The removal of the police station at Port Awanui to Tikitika, marks another stage in the general drift inland on the east coast, the principal recent movement of which was the removal of Tuparoa Hotel and the license to Tep-

uia springs. The new police statioq will be elected at Tikitiki and it is probable th a t the 'court formerly held at Port Awanui, will be removed to Ruatoria.

Port Awanui formerly a flourishing port of tb c east coast and the main outlet of Waiapu. district is now almost a deserted village, nothing remaining but the hotel and one store.
