MONTHLY MEETING HELD. The usual mopthly meeting of the Hokitika Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last evening. There were present, Messrs W. E. Brown (president), R.,.'Paterson (secretary), C. Hart, T. Lynch, P. R,/Whitford, F. Ashley, T. Stuart, A. C. Armutrong, G. Gilchrist and T. Cooper. Apologies for absence, were received from Messrs J. L. Menzies, J. N. Robinson, and G. A. King..

The. following 'inwards Correspondence ;w!as received :—. From Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs Ltd.; forwarding a copy of Stallard's book of uncensored war pictures. It was decided to purchase the book and hand it to the local library. From Westland County Council advising that'' the " request for the use of a lorry ' for : the Jubilee procession had been granted anil referred to the engineer for attention .

From the secretary of the Westland Hospital Board submitting the terms under which the local R.B.A.- can form a' hospital .association within their membership. It wa s decided to circularise the membership stating'the terms and requesting a definite decision as to each member’s intentions towards the scheme.’ '■ From the Waimate R.S.A. advising that their membership 'at preseut is 130 (Hokitika 186).- No report has hym received from the Grey-mouth R.S.A., with whom the branch has a membership competition. - From the general secretary, 'Wellington acknowledging receipt of letter re proposed legislation in connection with Mortgage Bond and stating that headquarters ..will give due attention to this matter and watch the interest of the soldier settlers...

Fnonf, advising th’atfc the National War Funds Council , had made a national grant of £IOB2 for the relief of distress and.jthat the sum of £6 had bee u allocated to the Westland Patriotic. Association. .

The secretary produced an interim balance sheet of the art .union, showing a net profit of £62. Details as to what account the 'amount is to be credited and the pro-rata amounts to be paid to the, sub-branches are to be submitted .to, next .meeting. Jt was decided 'to ;insert „in the loci paper, a. notice of appreciation, to all who assisted in making, the art union such a success. .
