A unique incident occurred in the pairs tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association played during the past two days. In section M at Remviera no fewer than five pairs tied with three wins each, the other pair failing to gain a win. This involved a series of games to find the winner.
There will he a total eclipse of the moon on Sunday next, January 20, at 1.53 a.m. the moon will enter the umbra. or shadow proper. Totality begins at 3.12 a.in. and lasts for over an hour, until 4.30 a.m. At 5.18 a.m. the moon will ho setting at which hour it will not have entirely left the umbra.
For the convenience of intending contractors the County Engineer (Mr Ashley) will he at Koitoraugi on Thursday forenoon to give information regarding the road and bridge works, tenders for which close ot noon on Saturday. (Mr Ashley will be at McArthur road about 10 o'clock.
A. fatal motor car accident occurred on the Granity-Ngakawail road on Sunday night. It appears that a car driven by Mr O. Prince, of Westport, knocked over Mr James Murphy, aged 56, who died later as a result of injuries he received. Deceased is survived by a wife, son and daughter. An inquest was opened yesterday and adjoined.
Owing to a shortage of records, and the inability of the operators to procure new releases, ltadio Station 3ZE, owned and operated by Messrs Schaef’s Ltd., Greymouth went off the air permanently on Friday last. The vStation, which has been on the air for the past four years, has been restricted to dinner sessions, for the last twelve months.

The Unemployment Board from Monday week is extending the No. 5 relief scheme for registered unemployed, by dispensing with the stand-down week. The rate of relief is to bo adjusted somewhat allso, .according to family obligations. The changes will effect an improvement in the ease of those employed by increasing earning power over a period. The alteration should enable a little better progress being made at the local aerodrome by reason of eliminating stand down week.

I<VMarshall, t!io Canterbury delegate to the New Zealand Poultry Board, reported to the monthly meeting of the Canterbury branch council oil Saturday evening that action was being taken in Auckland very shortly against a man who, it was alleged, had registered only 306 birds when lie bad a flock of about 1500. He bad boasted that lie was not going to register the. rest. Mr AY. Turner, the Chairman, said they were looking for the commercial man who boasted that he would not register. -‘Well, they have had their last warning,’’ added Air. Marshall.

An exciting if somewhat trying few minutes were spend by the driver of a motor-lorr.v laden with pigs, when the vehicle capsized on the Matangi Road, near Hamilton. The lorry ran off the road and down an embankment, and the pigs scattered in all directions into near by fields. It was only after considerable difficulty that they were recaptured.. The driver of the lorry was not injured, hut the vehicle was damaged.
